You Meet the Nicest People in a Buick
I grew up reading in motorcycle magazines that you meet the nicest people on a Honda. Well, no one on a Honda ever gave me one. Twenty years ago, I saw a straight 62 LeSabre in a rocery store parking lot in Rochester, NY. As was (and still is) sometimes my custom, I left a note. The owners, Dick and Evelyn, called me to say that one day they may let the car go. They had owned it since new. WHile other cars were replaced every two years, this was their favorite, and they kept it for two decades.
We became friends, and the car was secondary, as we often visited. Then one day Dick said they wanted to sell the car. Several neighbors had expressed interest, but their response was always that "they could only ever part with it to a relative". They would sell it to me, but I had to become their nephew. The car was mine for $500. And I had a new Aunt and Uncle.
We have stayed in touch over the years, mostly with Christmas cards and letters, always from Uncle Dick and Aunt EVelyn or Nephew Roy. My Aunt Evelyn and Uncle Dick recently said they had another Buick they wanted to part with. A low-miles California '83 Electra. I asked the price and Uncle Dick said he thought he would just sign it over to me. Wow. Forget about Hondas. Take it from me. You meet the nicest people in a Buick!
Sadly to report, Evelyn just passed away. She and Uncle Dick had been married 52 years. Thanks Uncle Dick, for letting me into the family.

Aunt Evelyn is gone, the big spruce tree is gone, and the Buick is showing some wear...
Uncle Dick passed awary July 18, 2012. G'bye Uncle Dick. Say hello to Aunt Evelyn for me...
